Toledo police officers honored at annual ceremony
A Toledo police officer who was shot in the line of duty last year was honored multiple times this morning and named Officer of the Year. Officer Robert Orwig was shot on April 16, 2011, while he and other officers were serving an arrest warrant to Samuel Birch who opened fire on officers, striking Officer Orwig in the leg. Birch was shot and killed by Officer Neil Piasecki, who was with Officer Orwig at the 225 Linden Place home.
